Anti Money Laundering (AML) / Know Your Client (KYC) Policy
Preventing money laundering is something that we take very seriously.
What is money laundering? It’s the process by which the proceeds of crime are converted into assets which appear to have a legitimate origin, which can then be retained and used to fund further crime, including terrorism.
We have put in place this AML & KYC policy to help guard against the risk of our competition prizes from being used for money laundering. In the context of prize competitions, this means that people could, for example, be using stolen credit cards to enter competitions in the hope of winning prizes, which they can later turn into cash. Without proper checks, it would be difficult to prove that the money from the sale was not legitimately obtained by the criminal.
As we are sure you will understand, this is a legal obligation which we must adhere to, we therefore require your assistance in achieving this. Compliance with this policy and cooperation with its enforcement is mandatory for anyone who wishes to enter our prize-based competitions.
All competition entrants MUST have a website account on gimmeballs.golf before being allowed to enter a competition. The account MUST be opened in the entrant’s legal name; nicknames and incorrect names will not be accepted. After creating an account, we may request that the account holder provide further information to enable us to verify their identity or assist with our investigations. For example, we may ask for a copy your passport, driving licence or other recognised forms of ID. If requested by our team you must provide this information within a reasonable time.
Competition entrants are only permitted to open one account, and you must ensure that any information you provide when opening an account, or at any other time is accurate and up to date. If any of your personal details change, for any reason, you must inform us as soon as reasonably possible.
Entry to competitions must be made via our website or the designated free entry route. Payments must be made via authorised means only. Cash payments will not be accepted. We happily accept free entries in accordance with our terms and conditions and legal obligations.
We have been made aware of criminals using stolen, fake or reused stamps to enter competitions. Therefore all free entries will be closely scrutinised, especially in the case of multiple free entries from a single account. If an account holder does not comply with this policy when entering one of our competitions or does not provide additional information when requested by our team, their account will be suspended pending further investigations or may be closed entirely at our discretion.
If you are a winner of any of our competitions we will request confirmation of your identity, eligibility to enter the competition and proof of address before awarding the prize. If you are unable or unwilling to provide the information we request, you will forfeit the prize.
To comply with this policy, our staff have undergone and will continue to undergo training to ensure that they are aware of their legal responsibilities and know what to look out for when guarding against money laundering and fraudulent online activity. This includes monitoring competition entries, monitoring the opening of new accounts, and looking for suspicious or unusual activities by account holders.
We regularly conduct risk assessments and review this policy to ensure that it is up to date. If, as a result of any risk assessment, we decide to update this policy, the new version will be posted on this page/website. We may also update this policy from time to time in response to any changes in the law.
Whilst all staff will be guarding against money laundering, we have appointed Antony F to be our designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO). It is the MLRO’s responsibility to report suspicious activities and possible acts of money laundering to the relevant authorities. If you have any questions about this policy, you should send them to the MLRO via email to antony-mrlo@gimmeballs.golf.
Entrants must be 18 years of age or older and be resident in the United Kingdom.
